Setting up competency assessments (SFP 5.1)

Add a competency sign-off to a training Requirement and record or change a staff member's Competency Level on the tablet.

For: Admins, Managers and Tablet Managers

Note: Training Management is part of the Training Management Module. It's included in some plans and available as an add-on on others. To activate it, contact your Customer Success Manager or [email protected].

Requires Competency Assessment adds a sign-off step to a Requirement. A Tablet Manager, Manager or Admin confirms the person can actually do the job, not just that they've uploaded a certificate or passed a quiz. For example, your Head Chef can sign off that a new Line Cook can run the fryer unsupervised.

Note: Competency assessments are recorded on the tablet only. You can't record or change one from the Admin Console.

Add a competency assessment to a Requirement

  1. When creating or editing a Requirement, turn on Requires Competency Assessment in the Requirement details step

  2. Add the Activities the person must complete first, such as a quiz and a certificate upload

The assessment step only becomes available once every other Activity on the Requirement is complete and approved.

Record a competency assessment

  1. On the tablet, open the menu

  2. Tap Training

  3. Tap the staff member's training record

  4. Tap your own name in the verification list

  5. Enter your PIN

  6. Tap the Requirement showing Pending assessment

  7. Tap the assessment step

  8. Choose a Competency Level, such as Needs supervision or Can work unsupervised

  9. Save the result

The Requirement is now complete for that person and shows their Competency Level. See Training settings to change the levels available.

Change a competency assessment

You can update someone's Competency Level at any time.

  1. Open the staff member's training record on the tablet with your PIN

  2. Tap the Requirement

  3. Choose a different Competency Level

  4. Save the result

Use this as someone's skills change, for example moving them from Needs supervision to Can work unsupervised, or back to Needs retraining if a problem comes up.

Note: Nobody is notified when a Competency Level changes. Tell the staff member yourself.
